Guidelines For Artists

Boots Contemporary Art Space reviews images, videos, and DVDs for artists wishing to have their work considered for future exhibitions. The work will be reviewed and considered by the Boots staff and advisory panel. Drop offs are welcome but pick-ups are not. So all packages must include a SASE. We are unable to take telephone inquiries on the status of submissions.

Your packet should include:

1. Work

10 to 20 images
Please send jpgs only, no bigger the 6 inches on any side at 300dpi on a CD or as a web link. We require hard copy printouts in addition to any digital images.

Video
VHS or DVD format video segments should be no longer then 5 minutes and cued to the appropriate segments for the panel to view. Only moving images, ie. time-based-media, video art, or documentation of performances should be submitted on VHS or DVD. For DVD pieces containing several pieces, please make each piece a chapter on the DVD for easier viewing.

2. Script

Provide a corresponding image list with the numbers marked, the title, date, medium, dimension and a brief description of the work (less than 50 words for each slide.)

For Video: Include title, date and a brief description of the work (less than 250 words.)

3. CV

Please include your name, address, phone number and e-mail address along with exhibition and educational background.

4. Artist’s statement

Artist may also include an artist statement detailing more about a specific project or their work overall. This should be no longer than 1 page.

5. Self addressed stamped envelope

With sufficient postage for the return of your materials. Drop offs are welcome, but pick-ups are not, so all packages must include a SASE. Material sent without a SASE will not be returned. We will contact you upon receiving your submission, after that the submission review process can take six months to a year.

6. Application processing Fee

An application fee of $25 should be included with your submission. This fee covers the processing of the applications and helps keep Boots (an artist run and funded space) opperating. Make checks or money orders payable to Boots Contemporary Art Space.

Please Note
For artists wanting to create new site-specific projects, please include a drawing of the proposed project, in addition to materials listed above.

Artists are encouraged to view the gallery space before submitting applications.

Exhibiting artists are responsible for delivering their work, bringing any equipment to the gallery needed for installing and de-installing their work.

Boots Contemporary Art Space can assist artists and curators with installation but will not be involved in helping the artists to build their work on site.

Guidelines For Curators or Public Art Projects

Boots Contemporary Art Space reviews proposals for Curators, Art Collectives or Public art project wishing to have their work considered for future exhibitions. The work will be reviewed and considered by the Boots staff and advisory panel. Drop offs are welcome but pick-ups are not. So all packages must include a SASE. Do not call the office to inquire about the status of you package.

Proposals for curated group show and Public Art Projects should include the following information.

1. A curatorial statement

A description of the exhibition and an explanation of the idea. Curators are encouraged to view the gallery space before submitting application.

2. Work
